Kaneland CUSD 302 covers 140 square miles in southwest Kane County in Illinois. It has experienced tremendous growth over the last several years due to general demographic trends and growth in the housing market in the district. The school district constructed two new elementary schools, McDole Elementary in Montgomery, Illinois, and Blackberry Creek Elementary in Elburn, Illinois, in response to that growth. KJWW provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design services for the two schools. Blackberry Creek Elementary is 67,000 SF. The building was designed for a future planned 15,000 SF expansion. All mechanical and electrical systems were designed to accommodate the planned expansion as well. Both buildings include:
- a gym
- a cafeteria/multi-purpose room
- office area
- music and art rooms
- a learning center
- 38 classrooms
The administrative sections in both buildings were designed for year round use. Mechanical and electrical systems in these spaces were designed to operate independently from the rest of the building, which is only occupied during the regular school year.
