A. Finkl & Sons steel mill processes over 100,000 tons of steel each year. The company’s headquarters, located in the heart of Chicago’s Near North Side, is a fully integrated production facility.
KJWW provided engineering designs for plant ventilation, power, lighting, life safety and drains required to achieve and maintain a safe and efficient plant environment for an addition at the plant. Preparation of applicable mechanical and electrical specifications and contract documents suitable for pricing and permit purposes were included in our services.
The addition included:
- New Scrap Building
- New Connector Building
- New Melt Shop Building
- New Overhead Steel Canopy (100 feet by 200 feet)
- New Heat Treat Furnace Annex
The expanded steel mill is primarily a scrap steel metal reprocessing/recycling plant. This process used a 25,000 kVA furnace. A 12.47 kV electrical distribution system was a major challenge on the project.
