The Owner’s were seeking 35% energy savings in the design of this school over traditional systems with a further goal of having systems that would last a century. KJWW examined solar loads and Department of Energy II modeling programs. An alternative displacement ventilation system was considered but the current construction would not support it. This problem was solved by a unique approach which required considerable coordination between disciplines by routing the entrance air low into rooms and removing it high; this is an innovative design that is new to schools.
