Description :

KJWW Engineering is providing mechanical, electrical, structural and technology design services for a new 3-story building houses an Emergency Department and Heart-Vasuclar Facility at Allen Memorial Hospital.

The Emergency Department, approximately 25,000 SF, includes exam rooms, observation area, isolation rooms, behavioral services exam rooms, trauma rooms, waiting and lobby area, diagnostic space, and administrative space.

The Heart-Vascular Facility occupies the second and third floors, each approximately 25,000 SF. The second floor includes an EP lab, 2 cath labs plus space for a future cath lab, an IR lab, 2 nuclear med rooms, a stress lab, patient holding area and PT/exercise area. The third floor includes an isolation room and 24 private patient rooms.

KJWW designed a centralized UPS specifically for the diagnostic equipment. It is sized to run several pieces of equipment at one time.

The project included extending utilities from the hospital’s central energy plant to serve the new building. It also required reworking the electrical utilities to allow three, 607-ton chillers to run simultaneously.

A skywalk on the second floor connects the free-standing building to the hospital.

KJWW provided security systems design for surveillance and access control systems, including duress buttons, to provide exterior and interior monitoring of the emergency department addition.  Approximately 40 cameras and 30 card readers were programmed and designed to meet the needs of the staff.  These systems were designed to be managed and viewed on a single system using an integration platform.
