KJWW provided design services for Siouxland Surgery Center’s new medical office building, a three-story facility that houses imaging equipment including X-ray and CT, along with a waiting area and physicians’ offices. The project also included a one-story surgery addition which was designed to accommodate future vertical growth.
Challenges & Solutions |
- This was a fast track project. Contract documents for the 35,000 SF medical office building were completed and built in 8 months. The contractor and designers were all sitting at the table during the project kick off meeting. Structural engineers worked directly with the steel fabricator and general contractor, and mechanical and electrical engineers worked directly with the MEP subs during design. The project was issued in several packages.
- 3D modeling was done on the structural side and was used for preliminary material estimates and quantity takeoffs by the fabricator. A 3D rendering of the structure was placed on the drawings and hung in the job trailer. It was used as a reference for discussions on different areas of the building during construction meetings.
- Due to the fast track schedule, steel design sizes were selected based on a list from the fabricator of readily available pieces.
- The project included 200 tons of steel and was designed and fabricated in approximately 5 months.
