Paul VanDuyne - President

Paul VanDuyne, PE, has been with KJWW for over 30 years and president of the company since 2004. He has a degree in electrical engineering from Drexel University in 1974. He is licensed in 18 states and has a long history of quality design in healthcare facilities and other projects. Paul is a member of NSPE, IES, and AEE. He is an accomplished runner, seasoned traveler, active volunteer and dedicated family man. He loves a challenge and has overseen dramatic growth of the company in terms of employees, as well as size and number of projects.

Larry Pithan - Senior Vice President

Larry Pithan, PE, is the senior vice president at KJWW and also serves as secretary-treasurer of the firm. Larry has worked his entire career with KJWW since graduating with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University in 1973. He is licensed in 12 states and is a member of ASHRAE, ASME, NSPE, and IES. Larry is the recipient of ACEC-IL’s Community Service Award. Larry and his wife have endowed a full professorship at Iowa State University in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Reserved and punctual, Larry has been recognized for service to the profession. His love of family, church and travel occupy his free time.

Warren Lloyd

Warren Lloyd, PE, LEED AP, serves as vice president of KJWW, manager of the Rock Island office, and client executive for the healthcare and international markets.. He is a no-nonsense, high-energy leader, who has won international recognition for his engineering work, including two ASHRAE Society Technology Awards for his innovative design projects. He is a leading industry expert in the geothermal technology. Warren has a degree in mechanical engineering from Bradley University and over 35+ year’s experience. He is licensed in 15 states and is a member of ASHRAE and SAME. He has been a featured writer in many trade journals and speaker at national conferences. After hours he spends time with his family, flies remote-controlled airplanes and enjoys fishing and hunting.

Paul Parry

Paul Parry, PE, LEED AP, is a principal at KJWW and client executive for the education and sports and recreation markets. He joined the firm after receiving his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa in 1989. He has worked his entire career with KJWW where he has served as project manager on many of KJWW’s largest projects. He is licensed in 9 states and a member of ASHRAE and SFPE. A mentor to many KJWW staffers, Paul demonstrates an impressive work ethic and self-motivation. He is also a disciplined marathon runner, who enjoys spending time with family and friends outside of the office.

Jeff Pratt

Jeff Pratt, PE, LEED AP, is a principal at KJWW and serves as manager of the Naperville office. He is a client executive for the education market. He joined the firm in 1994 after receiving his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer, registered Energy Professional with expertise in the Chicago Energy Code and a LEED Accredited Professional. He is a strong leader and accomplished project manager. An expert carpenter, he enjoys home improvement projects and spending time with his family.

Steve Rhoades

Steve Rhoades, PE, LEED AP, is an associate principal and branch manager and client executive for the St. Louis office. He joined the firm in 1995 after graduating from Iowa State University with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He is licensed in several states, an active member of ASHRAE and an award-winning engineer. His specialty is healthcare engineering. He uses his military background in plant operations to design central systems for institutional facilities. Steve enjoys learning new technologies and teaching fellow engineers. His free time is spent with family, hiking, fishing and riding in hot air balloons.

David Smith

David Smith, PE, serves as a principal at KJWW and manager and client executive of the Madison office. He has a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois and is a licensed Professional Engineer in five states. With 30+ years experience at KJWW, he has a broad range of project experience from educational and governmental to healthcare, industrial and commercial facilities. Smith is a licensed pilot with an instrument rating and enjoys family time, as well as history and trivia.

Andy Thielen

Andy Thielen, PE, LEED AP, is an Associate and branch manager and client executive of the Des Moines office. Equipped with his B.S. in electrical engineering from Iowa State University, he started with KJWW in 1995. He has experience in institutional, municipal, industrial and commercial projects. His previous electrical contracting experience provides an understanding of contractor needs and system design. He specializes in generator systems and programmable logic controls. Andy values time with his family and also enjoys water sports and boating.

Eric Vandenbroucke

Eric Vandenbroucke, PE, LEED AP, is an associate at KJWW and client executive for the healthcare market. Eric has over 20 years experience after graduating from Michigan Technological University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He also has an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management. Eric is a LEED Accredited Professional and certified Chicago Energy Professional. He is a member of ASHE and the local HESNI chapter of ASHE. Eric specializes in healthcare engineering design and leads many of the firm’s largest healthcare projects. His attention to detail and strong organizational skills, allow him to excel at customer service. Eric enjoys spending time at the beach with his family.

Lee VanOpdorp

Lee Van Opdorp, PE, an associate principal at KJWW and a client executive for the industrial, mission cirtical, government and commercial markets. Lee is responsible for training and developing the electrical engineering staff in all aspects of project management, design, construction and quality control. He has keen listening skills and is very detail-oriented. He has a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois with over 20 years experience at KJWW. He is licensed in 9 states. Lee is an avid golfer and racquetball player who also spends his free time with his family.

John Wilczynski

John Wilczynski, PE, LEED AP, is an associate principal, branch manager, and client executive of the Indianapolis office. John has over 20 years of experience in mechanical engineering design. He has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from The University of Akron and is a LEED Accredited Professional. He brings a depth of experience in healthcare, higher education, and sports and recreation facilities. He received many accolades for engineering the Lucas Oil Stadium, home to the Indianapolis Colts professional football team. He is a strong leader and excels at building and maintaining long-term client relationships. He enjoys sports and spending time with his wife and daughter.

John Wilczynski
Bob Winter

Bob Winter, PE, is an associate at KJWW and branch manager of the Chicago office. He is a client executive for the government and commercial markets. He earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., in 1985 and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago in 2005. He has extensive design experience with HVAC, fire protection and plumbing systems and has worked for a wide variety of clients, including hotels, museums and universities. He is licensed in several states and is a member of ASME. Bob enjoys tennis, creative cooking, and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Patrice Accola - Education

Patrice Accola is the manager of Corporate Education and an Associate at KJWW. She joined the firm in 2004 after 20 years as a corporate instructor and developer, including 13 years with Deere & Company. With degrees from the University of Wisconsin and Augustana College, she is responsible for professional development of staff, managers and leaders at all KJWW locations, and is creating the foundation for KJWW University. The mother of two children, Accola is an avid reader, traveler and walker.

Tim Anderson - Human Resources

Tim Anderson is the Human Resources manager at KJWW. His staff is responsible for recruiting, hiring and processing new employees. They also oversee the benefit and insurance programs, service awards, employee-review process, training for supervisors, special events and corporate merchandising. Anderson is an alumnus of St. Olaf College in Minnesota and has done graduate work in counseling. An avid baseball fan, he is married with two sons and a step-daughter.

Jeff Boldt - Engineering

Jeff, a principal and the Director of Engineering at KJWW, is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 30 years experience in mechanical and acoustical design. Jeff leads both the Innovation and Quality initiatives at KJWW. He is a voting member of ASHRAE 90.1, the energy standard that is the basis of nearly all energy codes in the USA. Jeff chairs the Healthcare, Hydronics, Elevator, Booster Pump, and Duct System Leakage working groups in the 90.1 committee. Jeff is one of the authors of the DOE-sponsored Advanced Energy Design Guide for Small Healthcare Facilities and is currently beginning work on the AEDG for Large Healthcare Facilities. His design expertise is in facilities requiring strict control of humidity, temperature, and indoor air quality such as hospitals, laboratories, surgery suites, libraries, and industrial plants. In his spare time, Jeff competes in triathalons around the country.

Scott Bowman - Project Delivery/Sustainability

Scott Bowman, PE, LEED AP, BD+C has been a principal of the firm since 2002. Scott is manager of project delivery and sustainability for the company. He received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University in 1982. He was named Engineer of the Year in 2006 and received a Distinguished Service Award in 2008 by the Central Iowa Chapter of the Iowa Engineering Society. He plays an active role in project development and systems planning. His specialties are in direct digital controls, energy efficiency, sustainable and green design, and systems commissioning. He is is licensed in several states and is a member of ASHRAE, NSPE, and USGBC. He has been a featured speaker at many national industry conferences. He devotes his extra time to family, church, travel and reading.

Jeff Carpenter - Technology

Jeff Carpenter, PE, RCDD, is an associate principal at KJWW and the corporate manager of the Technology Department. His excellent communication skills and attention to technical details serve clients very well. Jeff is responsible for overseeing the training and development of the technology staff, as well as project design and quality control. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1994 with a B.S. in electrical engineering and has worked his entire career with KJWW. He is licensed in several states and received his RCDD certification in 1999. Jeff is a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, BICSI, and the International Communications Industries Association. He is a featured speaker at many national industry conferences. Away from work, his wife, son and daughter take up most of his free time, and he also loves playing with new gadgets and traveling.

Derek De Jesus - Commissioning

Derek is the National Commissioning Manager and electrical commissioning leader for KJWW Engineering. He brings lean efficiencies to the KJWW Commissioning program for scheduling, coordinating work tasks, budgeting effort, as well to the client's commissioning deliverables. Derek is an expert in medium voltage power systems, life safety, lighting control, security systems, power distribution and emergency power systems with over 11 years experience in commissioning, as well as electrical building design. From data centers to office buildings and hospitals, he adds value and insight to any project's commissioning program through his extensive field and on-site experience, he also has an in-depth knowledge of mechanical and controls systems required for validation and integration of multi-disciplinary systems. Derek is a hands-on father of two daughters and enjoys working out.

Shirley Howe - Accounting

Shirley Howe is the controller for KJWW Engineering. She oversees all corporate accounting, payroll, and accounts payable and receivable. She joined KJWW in 2005 after a tenure with Unity Health Systems in Muscatine, Iowa. She has a B.A. in accounting from Saint Ambrose University and is a Certified Public Accountant. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Iowa Society of CPAs. Married with two children, she enjoys biking, hiking, travel and gardening.

Dan Huntington - Structural/India Operations

Dan Huntington, SE, PE, LEED AP, is an associate principal and corporate manager of the Structural Department and India operations. Hard-working, Dan has an impressive history of helping clients with design challenges. He earned a B.S. in civil engineering from Purdue University, an M.S. in structural engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and an M.B.A. from the University of Iowa. Dan is licensed in 13 states and is a member of AISC, LGSEA, ICRI, and SAME. A runner and tennis player, he also likes spending time with his family.

Dave Hutchcroft - IS

David Hutchcroft is KJWW’s Information Systems Manager. He joined the firm in 1989 at the beginning of the computerized office revolution. Now he and his staff install and support the hardware, software and networking for all the engineers, administration and support staff, company-wide. He received a degree from Clinton Community College in 1985 and has taken extensive continuing education coursework. Married and the father of one son, Hutchcroft enjoys golf and motorcycling.

Jon Mooney - Acoustics

Jon Mooney, is a senior engineer at KJWW and corporate manager of the Acoustics Department. Jon has over 30 years experience in acoustical engineering. Jon works with KJWW’s owner and architectural clients on new construction, renovation and expansion projects to identify and isolate noise and vibration sources, determine optimal architectural acoustics finishes, and design loudspeaker placements for AV systems. Jon’s 20 years of solving complex problems through both technical and creative approaches are what set him apart. His background includes healthcare and educational institutions, performing arts centers, auditoriums, office buildings, conference rooms and religious centers. Jon is an active member of the Acoustical Society of America and the National Council of Acoustical Consultants. He also serves as an architectural acoustical editor for the trade journal, "Walls and Ceilings." Jon enjoys spending his free time with his family.

Melissa Oelke - Marketing & Business Development

Melissa Oelke has been manager of Marketing and Business Development at KJWW since 1995. She has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Bradley University. At KJWW, she focuses her keen organizational skills on meeting client needs. She is a strategist in implementing the firm’s Strategic and Marketing Plans, as well as developing and promoting of the firm’s markets and services. Her spare time is devoted to her husband, two children, decorating, golf and travel.

Levi Sperry - Construction Administration

Levi Sperry is the manager of the Construction Administration Department. He has a B.S. in construction science from Kansas State University and over 20 years experience in the industry. He and his staff have provided construction administration services to a variety of projects, including healthcare, educational, institutional, and commercial. Levi is responsible for overall supervision and management of the department, project assignments, and assuring training for coordination of trades. In his free time, Levi enjoys woodworking and gardening. He and his wife have twins.

Mark Wilson - Medical Equipment Planning Manager

Mark brings extensive equipment planning experience supported by his knowledge of healthcare operations and successful business practices. His 30+ years of experience includes administration of corporate materials management for a Chicago area multi-hospital group and the development and implementation of the equipment plan for two new facilities, as well as equipment planning project management for nationally recognized firms serving numerous healthcare clients. His skills and background allow him to translate and coordinate requirements of three major groups that come together in the medical equipment planning process: clinicians, design & construction team, and equipment manufacturers.
